I used this on my 2002 BMW and it seemed to work great, but the next time I went to use it- oil started coming out of the T-Handle where air normally is the only thing that escapes. I called the manufacturer, and they advised me that some synthetic oils (Mobil 1 in my case) can cause the seals in the lower part of the canister to degrade and will allow oil to bypass. They informed me that it would be covered under warranty- but Tool Topia is not working with me. When you call the line for returns, they have you leave a message- nobody ever calls you back either. I have called 4 times in the last 6 days- and nothing.
Don't buy this if you use synthetic oil, it won't last long enough for your second oil change.

This is an excellent product. It really works best with Mercedes and BMWs where they also have the oil filter on the top of the car so you dont even need to get under the car to remove the oil filter. Ive also used this on my Audi, which it works fine, but you still need to get under it to get the oil filter out.
Also should point out, this wont work on some domestics because the way they snake their dipsticks into the oil pan. Clear example is the Dodge Ram 04. It comes with a tubing small enough to fit practically any car, but the dipstick on this truck snakes through to major curves so didnt work on that car.
But I can say it will work for almost any import or german car.

    Customer Reviews

The hose included is only 10-12" long. This may not be a 'show stopper' for most buyers, but, if you know you NEED the hose to be 18", you should be warned that it is not as listed. Perhaps they changed the materials, or maybe the TOTAL length with the funnel attached is close to 18", or they have 'mixed/incorrect' inventory in stock.
I have decided not to return it because , even if it doesn't work for me as is, I can simply purchase some hose for it. Besides, I feel a little silly buying a funnel from Amazon as it is, I'd feel worse returning it!
    fyi
EDIT: Just used it this weekend to re-fill the transmission/diff. in my Subaru 06 WRX Sportwagon. Plenty long enough and a 'plus' was the plastic fitting on the end. It is a good fit for the fill hole as it allows air to escape but sits nicely on top without 'falling in'. I still would advise medium/slow pouring - but I managed to not spill a single drop. Just make certain you hold the funnel or it is very secure while pouring. Bumping it to 4 stars. But the description really should be corrected.

Could not have done my transmission fluid change without this wonderful tool. Price was exceptional as well.

My 2002 Jeep has about 111k miles and it started the death slips.. Just giant jumps when I accelerate. I took it in and the repair shop charged me $100 to tell me that I would need a transmission rebuild. The price tag was about $2500. I wasn't ready to pay that so I started doing some research. I found Lucas and all I can say is it saved my wallet a huge blow.
I replaced the transmission fluid and added this whole bottle right into the transmission fluid. My Jeep feels better than it did the day I bought it. Smooth shifting, even when I tried to make it slip.
Even though it isn't a cure, it sure has fixed the symptoms and does everything it advertises.. I would recommend this to anyone with any car, at any point in it's life.

My daughter has a 1997 Ford Escort with automatic transmission. It was starting to hard shift frequently. We drained the old transmission fluid and added a bottle of lucas conditioner. It eliminated about 90% of the hard shifting. Highly recommend

I work on all my own vehicles. If you need to add trans fluid to a 2002 and later Ford Explorer (Maybe others also but the Explorer for sure) you'll need this. I think a 1/4" pipe nipple would work also just make sure the threads are right. I'm still trying to figure out why Ford thought it was a good idea to make a vehicle with no transmission dipstick but they did. So you'll need this and a good suction gun to force the fluid up into the trans. I used it two days ago and it works great, does the job perfect.

This part is extremely difficult to find; the local auto parts stores didn't have it. This is the solution to one of Ford's not-so-better ideas.

Wow, this really takes a long time, I order a product, it came with free shipping(great), it took 14 days to get to my (area),next stop would have been at my door, it never made it that far. It seems the shipment was damaged in transit, so I followed it for 7 more days to return to (where it was shipped from)then waited 5 more days for a refund? If I had wanted a refund I would not have ordered the product in the first place. The solution to this case would have been to reship expidite (overnight) the item I wanted from the time you new it was damaged. I still want this item, but I will not wait the periods of time these transactions seem to take, we are in the computor age, correct? There is nothing at all wrong with the item, just the service part of this organization. Dennis C. Harrington

Red Line 57904 (75W90) Synthetic Gear Oil - 1 Quart

    Product Description

Red Line MTL and MT-90 are designed to provide excellent protection and improved shiftability for manual transmissions and transaxles, having cured the problem of hard shifting in thousands of transmissions with shifting troubles. They have the appropriate coefficient of friction for most manual transmission synchronizers (many gear oils, engine oils, and ATFs are too slippery for proper synchro engagement). And, the wide viscosity of MTL and MT-90 allow proper shifting over the entire temperature range which the transmission will experience. The synthetic base oils used have a very high viscosity index which provides relatively constant viscosity as temperature changes. MTL is a low 70W at very low temperatures and a high 80W, nearly an 85W, at elevated temperatures, providing adequate viscosity to prevent wear and deaden gear noise. MT-90 is a thicker 75W90 version of MTL. The shear stability and oxidation stability of these products are excellent, thus the physical characteristics of Red Line MTL and MT-90 will change little with use.

    Product Features

    • Allows for faster shifting
    • Makes the transmission synchronizers come to equal speeds more quickly
    • Can also be used in racing limited-slip differentials

This is a Great oil, Lowers temp, So slick, Be carefull, Dont put it in some transmissions that have sycros. To slick. Hard to shift. Great for Differentials. Red line has another product for Transmissions. It works better for tranys.Great price from Amazon, And the free shipping makes it even better!

I use this oil in my cars that have a manual transmission and have for several years now. It reduces the shifting effort and increases the speed at which you can shift. Highly recommended.

    Customer Reviews

This is one awesome GL-4 fluid. It does everything it is supposed to and more, just as Redline promised. It smoothed out my transmission that I thought was potentially damaged. I was skeptical at first but no more. It was also cheaper than very expensive (and wrong, for my car) fluids at all the local stores that they tried to sell me.
Some background info is in order, if you are interested.
Many think all gear lube is the same, as long as you pick the right weight. Even many mechanics pay no attention to anything other than weight. Well, wrong, although it used to be true. Unlike motor oil, gear lube is indeed made different for different applications, even for the same weights, as newer cars requirements are so different from older cars.
Mistake one: I had a pro shop change the gear lube in a manual tranny pushing close to 200k.I figured it was time :) If you want it done right, do it yourself, but I was lazy that day. I specifically requested them to make sure the right synthetic fluid went in. They of course put in the right weight: high priced, major brand, synthetic 75w90, but they never bothered to check anything else, since they just have the autostore cross-reference and deliver the fluid. The stores are more clueless than anything else. The chain stores do not even stock GL-4 fluid anymore. There was one high priced brand that claimed to be both GL-4 and GL-5. Well, anything that claims to be one size fits all usually does not fit anything properly so I would stay away from that.
Mistake two: Not checking if all lube was backward compatible. If you want to be sure, check everything yourself. After all, I had professionals do it for me, right? They don't care because it is not their car. Well, GL-5 is not backward compatible and can actually damage some tender parts in transmissions designed for GL-4 due to some harsh additives.
So, after the shop put in GL-5, after a week or two, tranny started lurching in 5th gear. Darn. Did some research, but could not be sure if it was the fluid or just coincidence. After all, it is a lot of miles on the tranny. But, all indications were GL-5 was bad for my GL-4 designed transmission.
So, all my hopes rested on this Redline fluid. It did not let me down!
Got some Redline MT-90 GL-4 75w90 fluid and changed it myself. Amazon has the best price. No one locally even stocked pure GL-4. At first, the lurching was still there. Well, it was worth a try, I thought. But then, it got smoother, or so it seemed. Wishful thinking, I thought. Then, it was definitely smoother, no mistake. Could it be? Now, about two weeks after, for the very first day, the lurching in 5th gear is completely gone, and the tranny is as smooth as it was before. Even smoother. I would occasionally grind when shifting quickly, but now I can shift as fast I am capable of and I have yet to make it grind.
    So, expensive lessons learned.
One, do it yourself, if you can. Check what someone else puts in your car before you let them put it there. Definition of a "professional" is that they are paid to do it, not necessarily that they do it well. Just because they get paid to do it, does not mean they know what they are doing, or know better than you.
Two, even if you do not do it yourself, at least make sure your mechanic knows what to put in. They will not take time to research and could not care less if you do not tell them beforehand.
Three, do not trust clueless autostores to cross-reference fluids. They will get it wrong most of the time. Go to factory service manuals or other reliable sources for that information.
Four, if your transmission calls for GL-4, do not chance it with GL-5! Brass synchronizers cannot take it, as GL-5 additives can eat them. You may need a new tranny or major repairs before you know it.

I've been a longtime Redline lubricants fan because of their high quality and specific properties of the products themselves. In this case, (MT-90) the key property is to provide enough friction between gearshifts to allow the synchronizers to slow down and provide smooth gearshifts. This is not an easy task to perform while still lubricating and being slippery enough to provide a consistent oil film, lubricity, resistance to thermal breakdown and long fluid life. If you have an older transmission that's getting more difficult to shift, Redline MT-90 can improve it and extend the time before a rebuild is necessary.

Purchased one of these to help change the transmission fluid on my RX8. Used it with a bottle of redline fluid. Fit perfectly, no leaking, and made the job nice and easy. Price is perfect, and shipping was fast!

I just received this pump, and the packaging says that it pumps 4cc per pump. That is a very small amount: it will take 250 pumps to pump one liter. (Edited - see comments.)

I just put this in my 97 Chevy Cavalier yesterday. My Chevy has 243k miles on it and is a 5 speed. The owner's manual states the fluid is good for the life of the car, but the life of a Cavalier is usually 200k or less. I asked GM whether to change the fluid and they wouldn't officially comment. I chose Pennzoil because they have a reputation of putting out good product and I read up on it.

So far after 100 miles of driving, I have noticed the grind is reducing that I had before, plus the car is just rolling down the road better. The trans-axle sounds like it is doing less work.
Please note: If your car takes Synchromesh fluid, do not subsititute with anything other than the OEM brand or Pennzoil or Quacker State (which are both owned by Shell). Synchromesh has special lubricants for brass ; yellow alloys- making this specific type of trans-axle lube absolutely incompatible with any other type of trans-axle fluid.
Price-- This is cheaper than the OEM from Chevy. Some Chevy dealers charge up to $20 quart.

TSB 21-010-04 specifies this fluid (MS-9224) for the new 6-speed manual in the Liberty and the Wrangler. In my Wrangler, it actually shifts better than the factory fill did! You'll need 1.6L to do the job.

I never thought that changing the manual transmission oil in my BMW 330i to synchromax would make any difference. Unbelievable difference in the smoothness of shifting! I will definitely use more of their products in the future!

If you have a 6 speed (NSG370) TJ or JK Wrangler, you should switch to this as soon as possible. You will get smoother shifting, and less metal shavings (wear) stuck to the magnetic drain plug. Been running this in my Wrangler for 30,000 miles now. It's as easy as an oil change. You need 14mm and 17mm hex sockets. One is for the drain plug and one is for the fill plug. You can squirt it in the tranny using the bottle. When it starts oozing out of the fill hole, you can put the plug back in. You'll need 2 bottles (1.6 liters).
Don't forget to also change your diff fluid regularly (every 2-4 oil changes). If you're lazy you can just pump the old fluid out, but I recommend taking the diff cover off and doing a thorough cleaning with some brake cleaner, towel, etc. To do that you need four liters of Mobile 1 75w90. Remove the diff cover bolts, then hit it with a soft hammer (rubber/plastic) until it falls off. Use a razor to scrape the old gasket material off of the diff and diff cover. Be careful not to scrap the metal. Clean everything well with some brake cleaner. Squirt a nice bead of black gasket maker around the diff cover, then reinstall it. Tighten in a star pattern to get a uniform seating. Don't overtighten it. Allow it to dry, then fill it just like you did with the tranny. You might need a small pump though if your Jeep isn't lifted enough.
